Pashmina is the rarest, finest grade of cashmere — the soft undercoat of the Changthangi goat, native to the Ladakh Himalayas at over 4,000 meters, where winters fall to −40°C. That cold is what makes the fiber this fine. A single goat yields only enough for a fraction of one shawl each year, hand-combed once during the spring molt, then hand-spun and hand-woven by artisans in Kashmir — nothing synthetic, nothing mass-made.
DESCRIPTION
Hand-woven from genuine pashmina cashmere sourced from the Kashmir Valley, India, this shawl is made using a generations-old craft that remains one of the most labor-intensive textile traditions in the world. Pashmina fiber is among the finest cashmere in existence, typically measuring 12–16 microns in diameter — finer than the finest commercial cashmere — and prized for its exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio and natural, supple hand. The close plain weave produces a fabric with a fine, even surface and a subtle natural sheen that deepens with wear and handling. Hand-knotted fringe finishes both short width edges, while the two long edges are left as clean, plain selvedge. Generous in proportion, it can be worn looped as a neck wrap, draped loosely over the shoulders, or drawn fully around the body as a wrap. The colorway is a warm, even tan — a solid, undyed-looking neutral that works across every context.
