Not All Cashmere Is Pashmina

Pashmina is the rarest, finest grade of cashmere — the soft undercoat of the Changthangi goat, native to the Ladakh Himalayas at over 4,000 meters, where winters fall to −40°C. That cold is what makes the fiber this fine. A single goat yields only enough for a fraction of one shawl each year, hand-combed once during the spring molt, then hand-spun and hand-woven by artisans in Kashmir — nothing synthetic, nothing mass-made.

DESCRIPTION
Hand-woven from genuine pashmina cashmere sourced from the Kashmir Valley, India, this shawl is a product of one of the world's most ancient and exacting textile traditions. Pashmina cashmere is among the rarest natural fibers on earth, drawn from the undercoat of the Changthangi goat at altitudes above 14,000 feet, yielding strands finer than 15 microns — a fineness that produces both remarkable warmth-to-weight ratio and a soft, luminous hand that no synthetic can replicate. The weave is a close plain-weave construction, hand-woven on traditional pit looms by artisans whose knowledge of the craft spans generations, resulting in a fabric of even, quiet sheen and exceptional drape. Hand-knotted fringe finishes the two short width edges only, while the two long edges are clean, unfringed selvedge — a detail that speaks to the integrity of the original woven cloth. It can be worn looped as a neck wrap, draped loosely over one or both shoulders as a shawl, or drawn fully around the body as a wrap. The colorway is a deep, solid charcoal grey.

How we
make it

Every shawl begins as raw fibre and ends as something only you will ever wear. Here’s the journey in between.

01
Step One

We start with the finest pashmina fibre

Cashmere goat down, hand-spun and hand-woven in Kashmir using a craft passed down through generations — nothing synthetic, nothing rushed.

02
Step Two

Hand-dyed, in your color

No pre-dyed stock. Once your order is placed, your shawl is hand-dyed to the exact color you chose.

03
Step Three

Finished by hand, fringe by fringe

Every fringe is hand-twisted, every edge checked by eye — only then does the shawl become yours.

Made slowly, on purpose.
