Not All Cashmere Is Pashmina
Pashmina is the rarest, finest grade of cashmere — the soft undercoat of the Changthangi goat, native to the Ladakh Himalayas at over 4,000 meters, where winters fall to −40°C. That cold is what makes the fiber this fine. A single goat yields only enough for a fraction of one shawl each year, hand-combed once during the spring molt, then hand-spun and hand-woven by artisans in Kashmir — nothing synthetic, nothing mass-made.
DESCRIPTION
Hand-woven by artisans in the Kashmir Valley, India, this shawl is made from genuine pashmina cashmere — one of the rarest natural fibers in the world, combed from the undercoat of Changthangi goats at altitudes above 14,000 feet. The fiber measures between 12 and 16 microns in diameter, finer than the finest merino, and is worked into a close plain weave that produces a cloth of exceptional lightness and warmth in equal measure. A fine natural sheen runs through the face of the fabric — not a finish applied after weaving, but an inherent quality of the raw pashmina fiber itself. Hand-knotted fringe finishes both short edges of the shawl; the two long selvedge edges are left plain and clean. Sized generously at approximately 200 cm by 70 cm, it can be folded and wrapped at the neck, draped open across the shoulders, or drawn around the body as a full wrap. The color throughout is a single, unbroken powder pink.
